The Raining Season provides a unique sponsorship opportunity centered on facilitating a personal relationship between sponsor and child. The goal is to promote a relationship that builds life-long bonds of trust so that both participants experience the joy that comes from truly changing the life of another. The organization was founded in 2008 by Jason Rust and his wife Erica Stone following their successful adoption of their daughter Jayda from Sierra Leone.
This experience opened their eyes to the devastating conditions suffered by the people of this West African country following a brutal civil war.
The Raining Season operates a fully-staffed care center in Freetown, Sierra Leone called the Covering. More than 90 orphans live there 24/7 and receive loving care, safety and protection -- all in a family atmosphere. Donors receive regular communication from their sponsored child, including letters, photos, school updates, artwork, and a monthly Skype visit for real, personal interaction. The organization also coordinates several humanitarian trips to Sierra Leone every year. Look to their website for dates, scheduled activities and an opportunity to sign-up.
