No More Poverty and the Omidi brothers fully fund the surgeries of two patients on Watsi’s unique global crowdfunding platform for medical needs and contribute toward the surgeries of four other patients.

Access to medical care is increasingly difficult in underdeveloped countries around the world. No More Poverty and its cofounders, Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi, have partnered Watsi, a nonprofit medical rescue organization to provide care to patients in desperate need. Watsi is a global crowdfunding platform that enables anyone to donate as little as $5 to directly fund life-changing medical care for people in need. In addition to providing organizational support, No More Poverty fully funded the treatment of 2 patients on Watsi’s waiting list and partially funded 4 others.

“Watsi is a truly visionary concept and a great use of today’s pervasive technology,” says Dr. Michael Omidi, cofounder of No More Poverty. “The fact that 100 percent of all donations goes to pay for the needed medical care is extraordinary. We at No More Poverty are thrilled to be allied with this progressive philanthropic business model, and we hope that their success encourages other charities to think outside of the altruistic box.”

Watsi was born after founder Chase Adam saw the mother of a desperately ill child begging for money from the passengers on a bus in Costa Rica. After that life changing moment, he dedicated his time and resources to developing a system wherein donors could connect directly with people in need of medical intervention. The foundation was named Watsi after the Costa Rican village where Mr. Adam experienced his revelation.

All money donated to Watsi goes directly to that patient’s medical care. All overhead and operating expenses are funded by private organizations and generous corporate donations. The organization is dedicated to transparency on every level and makes all it financial statements freely available.

Watsi has vetted medical partners throughout the world. Each partner must prove that they are licensed to practice medicine in the community they serve, have practiced for more than three years, have an excellent reputation in their community, and have successfully worked with another 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States.

No More Poverty is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas.
