A new partnership with charities No More Poverty, Love in the Mirror and the Smart & Final Charitable Foundation was recently formed to benefit homeless children associated with the Children Today organization in Long Beach.

Children Today has 50 kids running about in new shoes thanks to the generous donation of No More Poverty and its co-founders Julian Omidi and Michael Omidi, MD, the Smart & Final Charitable Foundation and Love in the Mirror and its co-founder Jonas Corona. No More Poverty and Smart & Final provided matching grants to fund the donation made by Love in the Mirror.

“It’s very sad that some kids don’t have food, clothes, toys and can’t even go to school. I want to help them so they can feel happy for themselves,” says eight-year-old Jonas Corona, founder of Love in the Mirror. “Thank you No More Poverty and Smart & Final for giving the kids at Children Today the new shoes. Helping kids makes me feel happy and that is why I started Love in the Mirror.”

“Our goal is simple – to increase the safety, stability and confidence of children faced with homelessness,” says Dora Jacildo, Executive Director of Children Today. “We thank the Omidi brothers and No More Poverty, The Smart & Final Charitable Foundation and Jonas Corona with Love in the Mirror for their wonderful and generous donation. These 50 pairs of shoes were met with tremendous joy and thankfulness. They are much appreciated.”

No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas. Suggestions for worthy partners in the fight for No More Poverty are welcome. No More Poverty does not accept monetary support, but instead encourages direct donations to the charities featured on the organization’s website. Smart & Final (http://www.smartandfinal.com/AboutUs/SponsorshipAndDonations.aspx) is a restaurant warehouse store where service industry professionals as well as households find high quality food service supplies at lower-than-retail prices. It employs more than 6,000 people and operates 250 stores throughout the western United States. The Smart & Final Charitable Foundation gives back to the communities it serves by supporting an array of charities and important causes.

Love in the Mirror (http://www.loveinthemirror.org) helps homeless children obtain not only the food, clothing and school supplies they need in everyday life, but also provides programs to empower children to succeed in their future endeavors, and hopefully make a difference in this world. It was founded by Jonas Corona when he was just six years old, after spending afternoons with his mother and aunt helping out at a local homeless shelter.

Children Today (http://www.childrentoday.org) was founded by working mothers Theresa Bixby and Jennifer Fitzgerald after they saw an infant wandering along a street in Long Beach, California with no parent in sight. The organization advocates for the needs of children in a system that typically sees homelessness as an adult problem. The goal of Children Today is simple – to increase the safety, stability and confidence of children facing homelessness and provide quality early care and education programs absolutely free of charge.
