No More Poverty and co-founders Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi support Drop in the Bucket and its life-saving health and education work in East Africa.

Drop in the Bucket No More Poverty (nmp.org), and its founders the Omidi brothers, Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi, are proud to be new supporters of Drop in the Bucket, a water and sanitation charity with field operations in Uganda and South Sudan. In addition to its life-saving work building wells, Drop in the Bucket is also very involved with programs designed to improve child health, increase school enrollment rates, and promote gender equality.

“It doesn’t get more basic than clean, safe water when it comes to life-saving work for people in need,” says Michael Omidi, MD, No More Poverty’s co-founder. “As a physician, I know firsthand the critical nature of reliable water and sanitation systems. Drop in the Bucket’s health and education work is very effective because they work alongside the people they serve to find and customize solutions to local issues. Julian and I consider it a privilege to support such a beneficial work.”

It’s no exaggeration to say the world is suffering from a water and sanitation crisis. Nearly 800 million people around the globe lack access to safe water. Every day, 4,500 children under five years old die from water borne illnesses. One in every three people cannot get to an adequate toilet. Since 2006, Drop in the Bucket has been working with villages in East Africa to drill wells and build sanitation facilities. The organization employs local training teams to engage communities and address complex issues associated with local water systems, community sanitation and hygiene initiatives. Because education is one of the most effective ways of moving a country out of poverty, Drop in the Bucket introduces social programs such as Village Savings and Loan Associations, Girl’s Clubs, and Health Clubs to educate and train its citizens.
