The Guatemala Aid Fund provides for the needs of handicapped and orphaned children at the Luz de Fatima Orphanage. Founder Bethany Eisenberg Zeeb gratefully acknowledges the recent sponsorship from No More Poverty and its co-founders Michael Omidi, MD and Julian Omidi. Their generous support is helping to feed malnourished children in Guatemala.
The Guatemala Aid Fund and the Luz de Fatima Orphanage would like to thank the Omidi brothers and No More Poverty for their support and sponsorship. “This year we are hoping to raise more than $30,000 to support more than four orphanages as well as other assistance programs for those in need in Guatemala,” says President and founder Bethany Eisenberg Zeeb. “We would like to thank No More Poverty and the Omidi brothers for their support and for endorsing our charity and we hope that this will help us to achieve our goals.”
Guatemala has one of the highest rates of chronic childhood malnutrition in the world; one in two children under the age of five is classified as malnourished. The children who are abandoned by their parents fare the worst of all. With no one looking after their interests, limited access to food and clean water, no medical assistance and limited prospects for adoption due to unending bureaucratic delays, many orphanages and institutions find that they are filled to bursting, and cannot care for the massive volume of children.
The Guatemala Aid Fund (http://www.guatemalaaidfund.org/index.html) was started by Bethany Eisenberg Zeeb after she experienced the tragedy of abandoned Guatemalan children. After she adopted two children of her own, she decided to shift her own priorities, abandon holiday luxuries for herself and her family and donate the funds to programs helping the orphaned, sick and handicapped children of Guatemala. Today, the Guatemala Aid Fund works tirelessly to procure grants and funding for Guatemalan orphanages, hospitals and aid societies, including the Luz de Fatima Orphanage.
The Luz de Fatima Orphanage provides care, medical assistance, education and physical therapy to neglected and abandoned children. In order to expand the orphanage so that it can comfortably house 100 children, Luz de Fatima Director Barbara Cofino acquired a plot of land with the hope that a private high school could be built. The tuition from the high school would be used to fund the expansion and maintenance of the orphanage. However, Luz de Fatima still needs additional funding in order to construct and staff the high school. In addition to the Luz de Fatima Orphanage, the Guatemala Aid Fund supports the Luz de Maria Orphanage and Hospital, the Happy Heart aid program and the Hermano de Pedro Orphanage.
No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world.
