No More Poverty and its co-founders Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi support the International Surgical Mission Support (ISMS), a non-profit organization of doctors, nurses, and other health professionals who provide free medical care and surgeries for the needy. ISMS medical teams travel the globe, bridging the gap of ethnic, political, and religious differences to improve, and sometimes save, the lives of underprivileged people around the world.

“ISMS is the real definition of ‘giving back’. These physicians, nurses and volunteers, with hearts as big as can be, are significantly impacting the lives of people in need,” says No More Poverty’s co-founder Michael Omidi, MD. “The type of quality medical care that the ISMS teams provide is often unheard of in many areas of the world. I applaud their efforts and am grateful for the opportunity to support them.”

International Surgical Mission Support began in 1996 when three friends with surgical training decided to use their skills and training to help the people of Haiti. The small team successfully performed 40 operations in one week within challenging conditions and thus began a fruitful, long-term partnership. The seeds of compassion were planted and have grown into the organization known as ISMS. Over time, the circle of friends has grown larger as more medical professionals joined and the expertise of the organization expanded. Today, ISMS employs many specialized teams including pediatric medicine and vision services.

ISMS’s mission is to provide free medical care for those in need in poor countries and to teach and train local medical professionals. Groups travel with the equipment and supplies to set up four fully functional operating rooms, a recovery room, and a pharmacy anywhere in the world within hours of arrival. ISMS teams have worked in many countries including Vietnam, Peru, Nepal, Zambia, India, Egypt, and many more.
