Watsi, an organization dedicated to increasing access to medical care in underdeveloped nations, thanks the Omidi Brothers and No More Poverty for their support. The non-profit provides a web-based global crowdfunding platform that enables anyone to donate as little as $5 to directly fund life-changing medical care for people in need.
Watsi funds low-cost high-impact medical care for people around the world. Organizational support from No More Poverty and its cofounders, Dr. Michael Omidi and his brother Julian Omidi will help Watsi to commit 100 percent of all donations to directly fund the patient’s medical procedure as presented on the Watsi website. No More Poverty also provided the remaining funding to complete surgeries for Samnang, a 21 year old from Cambodia and Neema, a three year old from Tanzania. These were two patients currently on Watsi’s waiting list and their operations are now fully funded.
“All over the world people are dying of treatable illnesses because they can’t afford basic medical care,” says Grace Garey, Marketing Director. “We believe that every person deserves access to medical care, regardless of their nationality, religion, or socioeconomic status. We envision a world where people no longer die from conditions that society has the knowledge, resources, and power to treat. We want to extend our thanks to No More Poverty for not only their support, but for also sharing our beliefs.”
Watsi (http://www.watsi.org) provides people the opportunity to help fund urgently needed medical care for patients in underdeveloped countries. Founder Chase Adam was inspired to begin his efforts to unite the poorest of the poor with sophisticated medical care when he saw a woman forced to beg passengers on a bus for the money to fund her son’s surgery. Watsi is named for the Costa Rican Village where Mr. Adam witnessed the woman’s desperate effort for her son.
Watsi is unique in that all donations are made to individual cases; they aren’t pooled only to be used on a variety of services and overheads. Each donor can be confident that 100 percent of the money he or she gives will go to the treatment of a person needing medical care. All other expenses – administrative costs, rents, etc. – are funded by private donors and foundations.
No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas.
