The Children Today non-profit organization is happy to count No More Poverty and its co-founders Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi as sponsors of its Fifth Annual 5k/10k Run-Walk fundraiser on May 25, 2013.

The organizers of the Fifth Annual Children Today 5k/10k Run-Walk thank the Omidi brothers and No More Poverty for their sponsorship. The fundraising event will take place Memorial Day weekend in Long Beach, and will feature a Health and Wellness Expo in addition to a 5k and 10k race.

“Last year, more 1,000 people participated in our Fourth Annual Run-Walk, helping to raise more than $65,000 for Children Today’s Play House programs,” says Children Today Executive Director Dora Jacildo. “Thank you to the Omidi brothers and No More Poverty for their sponsorship, and we hope that, with their help, we are able to meet this year’s goal of raising $100,000.”

The event will take place at the Marina Green Park in Long Beach on May 25, 2013 with check in beginning at 6:30 a.m. The event consists of both 5k and 10k runs, as well as a Health and Wellness exposition for race participants and spectators. Prizes will be awarded to the entrants who complete the races with the fastest times in different age divisions, ranging from children under the age of 12 to seniors over the age of 75. Children Today (http://www.childrentoday.org) was founded in 1997 by Jennifer Fitzgerald and Teresa Bixby, two mothers who were compelled to open a children’s center after witnessing a toddler wandering unattended on the streets of Long Beach. The goal of Children Today was to provide services and advocacy for homeless children, whose needs weren’t being sufficiently addressed by the many policies and nonprofits dedicated to remediating the homeless situation. Today, there are two developmental centers in Long Beach — Play House West and Play House North — that provide homeless children and their families a stable, caring environment for children between the ages of six weeks and six years. In addition to day care and early education programs, Children Today offers families with guidance and assistance with special education programs, health care, mental health care and permanent housing.

No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas.
