No More Poverty and its co-founders Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi congratulate Dean Kamen, the inventor of a new water purification system called the Slingshot, which is on its way to help the populations of several developing nations in Central America and Africa.

Waterborne illnesses kill millions of people in the developing world every year and the co-founders of No More Poverty, Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi, are very excited about a new solution to this problem. The Huffington Post recently reported that the new Slingshot water distilling system will be given to underdeveloped countries in Africa and Central America in order to provide citizens with a consistent clean water supply.

The Slingshot is the brain-child of inventor Dean Kamen, best known as the man behind the Segway. The global distribution plan for the Slingshot is a partnership with Coca-Cola and Kamen’s firm DEKA Research and Development.

“Although the earth is mostly water, only a small percentage of that water is potable, and developed nations use most of it,” says Dr. Michael Omidi, co-founder of No More Poverty. “The Slingshot water distiller can transform any liquid into drinkable water, so regions where there are only polluted or dangerous water supplies can finally have safe, drinkable water. This initiative could very well save thousands of lives.”

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 2.4 billion people are unable to access sanitation facilities. Nearly 800 million people around the world do not have reliable access to clean water. The Slingshot purifying device uses distilling methods – converting the liquid into steam and then condensing that steam – to convert any liquid, no matter how polluted, into drinking water. A single machine can produce 250 gallons of clean water daily.

“If these devices could be distributed to remote regions of the world, they will undoubtedly make a huge difference in the quality of life -for many people,” says Julian Omidi, No More Poverty co-founder.
