No More Poverty and its co-founders, the Omidi brothers, are proud to be among the sponsors for the Children Today Fifth Annual 5k/10k Run-Walk. The fundraiser will help pay for the quality early care and education programs Children Today offers the community absolutely free of charge

No More Poverty co-founders Dr. Michael Omidi and his brother Julian Omidi are happy to announce their support of Dora Jacildo in the Children Today 5k/10k Run-Walk on Memorial Day weekend in Long Beach. Children Today is a nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding children and their families with early education, healthcare and housing.

Dora Jacildo is the Executive Director of Children Today and has over 17 years of experience in the field of early care and education. Her career began as a preschool teacher, and after leaving the classroom, Dora worked with child care providers while improving the quality of early childhood education in the South Bay. In this capacity, she mentored over 300 providers and assisted with the start of hundreds of family child care businesses.

“Children Today is a wonderful organization that not only offers relief to struggling families, but gives them the tools they need to build stable, successful lives,” says No More Poverty co-founder Julian Omidi. “We are proud to help Dora with fundraising and we hope that this event helps to meet and even exceed her goals for Children Today.”

The Children Today 5k/10k fundraiser event will begin registration at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Marina Green Park in Long Beach. Prizes will be awarded to the top female and male athletes in different age divisions, and both runners and spectators will be able to attend the Health and Wellness Expo.

This is the fifth year for this fundraising event. Last year, the event raised more than $65,000 for the Children Today Playhouse Programs. This year, the goal is to reach the $100,000 mark.

Children Today (http://www.childrentoday.org) opened its first children’s development center in 2000 to provide homeless children a safe and structured environment while their parents were out either working, looking for work or attempting to better their lives. The Children Today Playhouses offer early education, meals and clothing to homeless children aged six weeks to six years. The playhouse environment helps to encourage healthy emotional development, develop social skills and foster creativity. Additionally, Children Today provides families with support and advocacy in basic healthcare services and mental healthcare services, as well as referrals to special education programs and permanent housing assistance.

No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi.
