The Omidi brothers, through their charity No More Poverty, support Sylvia’s Serenity Sober Living Homes and its efforts to help women break free from the cycle of homelessness and addiction.

No More Poverty cofounders Michael Omidi, MD and his brother Julian Omidi are pleased to announce their sponsorship of Sylvia’s Serenity Sober Living Homes, an organization that offers women who are struggling with addictions a safe place to recover and begin new lives. Sylvia’s is committed to providing a caring and healthy environment to women and their children who are actively pursuing a drug and alcohol free lifestyle.

“Sylvia’s provides a safe haven for women to overcome their addictions, which also helps to break the cycle of poverty and crime in our communities,” says Julian Omidi, No More Poverty’s cofounder. “This is key since many criminal offenses and homelessness is directly related to the pursuit of drugs and alcohol. The sober communities offered at Sylvia’s are changing the lives of women and their children and we are happy to help them continue to do so.”

Drug and alcohol addiction counselor Sylvia Hernandez founded Sylvia’s Serenity Sober Living Homes after experiencing firsthand the physical and emotional desperation of living in the thrall of narcotics addiction. Having endured the abuse of a drug addicted mother and later to become a full-fledged drug addict herself by the age of 18, Ms. Hernandez underwent her own journey to recovery after having her children removed from her care by the Department of Social Services. Today, she channels her energy into providing homes for women who suffer from the same degenerative substance dependence.

Sylvia’s Serenity Sober Living (sssoberlivinginc.com) has three locations; two in Riverside, California and one in Hemet, California. These homes are all fully furnished, have onsite mentoring and bible study programs and have internet access for online job searches. Transportation to treatment centers and Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings is provided. All homes are conveniently located near bus terminals, grocery stores and shopping centers, and have onsite house moms. Residents are expected to be active participants in their treatment, and must submit to random drug screenings and engage in mandatory self-help meetings.

No More Poverty (nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization with a pending 501(c)3 application founded by brothers Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi. It is dedicated to ending the destructive cycle of poverty in the United States and abroad by giving under-recognized charities the visibility and assistance they need to continue to do their good works. By sponsoring charities such as Sylvia’s Serenity Sober Living, No More Poverty hopes to raise awareness of the problem of substance abuse and the devastating effects not only on those that are dependent on alcohol and drugs, but also on their families and children.
