The Omidi brothers and their charity No More Poverty are new supporters of Whole Planet Foundation®, a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating poverty worldwide where Whole Foods Market® sources products. To date, the nonprofit has authorized more than $37 million and disbursed more than $24 million through microfinance partners around the globe, supporting providing more than 1.6 million people with a chance for a better life through entrepreneurship.

No More Poverty co-founders Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi are pleased to announce their support of Whole Planet Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Whole Foods Market. Through grants to microfinance institutions in 57 countries, including the United States, the foundation funds small loans that empower impoverished entrepreneurs with a chance to create or grow a home-based business and lift themselves out of poverty.

“Whole Planet Foundation offers the very poor living in communities around the globe an opportunity to utilize their own hard work and creativity to change their own lives. This investment by Whole Foods Market is an example of how a corporation can work with and give back to the communities where they conduct business,” says Julian Omidi, No More Poverty co-founder. “We hope that our contribution helps this forward-thinking organization achieve their noble goals.”

Whole Planet Foundation (http://www.wholeplanetfoundation.org/) alleviates poverty worldwide in communities that supply Whole Foods Market stores with products like bananas from Costa Rica, coffee from East Timor, Ethiopia, Kenya and Nicaragua, bay leaf from Turkey, blueberries from Argentina, cacao from Bolivia, cashews and spices from India, and more. By focusing microlending efforts on the very poor living in each community, the foundation aims to boost the well-being of the villages where products are grown or produced.

The foundation provides grants to microfinance partners around the globe, who in turn operate microlending programs to help impoverished entrepreneurs launch and maintain home-based enterprises. Loans are repaid and reloaned again and again in communities, so funds stay at the local level and continue to support the larger area. For more information or to contribute, visit the Whole Planet Foundation website (http://www.wholeplanetfoundation.org) or Facebook page.
