The charity Wheels for Humanity is grateful for the recent support of No More Poverty and its co-founders, the Omidi brothers, as the two charities work together to provide customized wheelchairs for disabled persons all over the world.
UCP Wheels for Humanity thanks No More Poverty and its co-founders Julian Omidi and Michael Omidi, M.D. for their recent support and sponsorship. UCP Wheels for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide increased mobility to the more than 59 million people with disabilities worldwide who need a wheelchair but cannot afford one.
“UCP Wheels for Humanity is proud of our work to bring the freedom of mobility to thousands across the globe,” says Michael Allen, Executive Director at UCP Wheels for Humanity. “We’d like to thank No More Poverty and the Omidi brothers for helping us work toward our goal of providing increased opportunities to people who need them the most.”
UCP Wheels for Humanity (http://www.ucpwfh.org) began in 1995 in a Studio City, California garage, where 130 wheelchairs were refurbished and donated to disabled citizens of Guatemala. The following year, the UCP Wheels for Humanity operation was moved to a warehouse in North Hollywood due to its rapidly expanding size. To date, UCP Wheels for Humanity has manufactured more than 60,000 wheelchairs and delivered them to residents in under-developed nations worldwide, and has played a crucial role in giving the disabled population and their particular needs greater visibility.
The wheelchairs that are restored and donated are custom built with the users in mind. Poorly constructed wheelchairs can lead to sores and spinal disfigurements for the occupant, and UCP Wheels for Humanity strives to construct wheelchairs for optimum health and support.
In addition to fabricating wheelchairs, UCP Wheels for Humanity is an advocacy group that helps to create programs that improve the quality of life for disabled people. Trained clinicians and wheelchair technicians are sent to the nations in which the wheelchairs are distributed in order to fit the chair to the user and train the users, their families and healthcare providers in the proper methods of seating, positioning, maintenance and adjustment.
No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas.
